My name is Marija Kovac, I was born in Serbia, Novi Sad in the autumn of 1990. I still live in Novi Sad, where i study photography. About five years ago my friend M Mandic
has got a small digital camera, and we started to take pictures every day. Just a few years later i discovered film camera and totally fell in love with photography. I'm mostly inspired by my friends and slices from my and their life, all the wonderful and intimate moments between us. Sometimes it's a silence and emptiness of place, rain, music, simplicity... many many things can inspire me.
I'd rather not say that i was influenced by someone, at least i try not to be. But there are many photographers whose work i respect and love such as : Nan Goldin, Ryan McGinley, Sally Mann, Hiromix...And many young photographers like Sasha Kurmaz, Synchrodogs, Lukasz Wierzbowski, Ada Hamza, Sasa Stucin, Marija Mandic...this could be a long list. Recently we ( Marija Mandic, Aela Labbe and me) started to work on the project CircleE
. CircleE is about communication between three of us through photography, each photo is connected with the previous. We are planning some projects within the Circle, but for now it's in progress.
I can say that this is one of my favorite photos that i shoot, it's in Zrenjanin, city in which my grandmother live. This photo always reminds me of sad memories from Zrenjanin but that's why i love this city.
I photographed this over a year ago, that is the most beautiful part of Novi Sad.
